A getaway doesn’t mean having to travel great distances or attending an extravagant event. Sometimes, we just need a little “me” time!

This past Tuesday, I had a great opportunity to visit the Spa On The Square in Southlake as part of a girls night out with a few local bloggers. How perfect is it to be able to getaway right after work, in the middle of the week and feel all the cares of the world lifted from your thoughts?! We all need this little slice of heaven?

The evening began by meeting the staff. Let me say, these ladies are amazing! Whatever the need they are friendly, personable, extremely knowledgeable regarding their specific area and make you feel right at home! They’re willing to accommodate every need and ensure that you will be taken care of 110%.

After the introductions, all of the fun began. The salon was all ours for the evening. We were provided a loose agenda showing what services we could enjoy including hair, nails, facials and massage. With a glass of chilled wine, we were set for the evening!

My first stop was nails. Besides being a full spa, medspa and salon, Spa On The Square also offers mini-sessions. If you’re short on time but still in need for that mani or pedi that you’ve been wanting or just want to swing in with one of your friends on a day of shopping, book a mini session! It’s the perfect mini-getaway to exhale and be pampered for a few minutes.

My second stop was with a massage with Linda. This was my favorite session. Relaxing and deep tissue massages are amazing but Linda also provides therapeutic massages (among many other options offered at the spa). She explained how my body works, holds tensions and how she helps to release them along with what the session would entail. She also provided tips on how I can improve my everyday living, especially working in a desk based enviornment.

My last session was a first for me, a microderm facial. I’ve been missing out! Amy provided a look at my skin, tips on how to help prevent those unwanted wrinkles later on down the road and skin care products. The microderm facial was relaxing and left my skin feeling absolutely wonderful. It was like a breath of fresh air!

Other sessions included hair. Here the stylists provided tips on cuts, colors and styling techniques such as how to boost volume or quick options for on the go or work functions.

At the close of the evening, we all received makeovers from the Jane Iredale line of cosmetics. These products felt so light on my skin, it felt as if I didn’t have any makeup on at all! We also received tips and information other products offered at the salon.

Honestly, I can’t wait to go back but I’m not sure what to book first! A massage? Facial? Perhaps I’ll just go for one of the fabulous packages offered – my birthday is coming up after all!

In appreciation for the upcoming school year, summer coming to a close and let’s face it, we all need a little getaway, Spa On The Square is offering all of our readers a 20% discount on any service!

Crazy Water

Mineral Wells, Texas, Texas Day Trip, Health, Mineral Water

What brought everyone to Mineral Wells? It’s what they call crazy water!

In 1880, Mr. and Mrs. James Lynch drilled a well on their property in Mineral Wells. The water tasted funny but it was harmless, it was actually beneficial. Their ailments slowly started to decrease. It’s also said to have helped alleviate an old woman’s dementia (crazies). Thus we have “crazy water”.

In 1881, another well is drilled with the same water presiding and a growing number of people arriving, ready to buy a glass of this healing water. By 1900, Mineral Wells has visitors traveling from all over the world coming to drink and bathe in the mineral water springs. By 1913, Mineral Wells had over 21 different mineral water companies. Multiple bath houses, wells, sanitariums and numerous hotels. Mineral Wells, Texas, Texas Day Trip, Health, Mineral WaterThe mineral water holds many different natural minerals including zinc, magnesium, calcium, manganese, and silica to name a few. No mineral can be added to mineral water. With the minerals being in the drinking water, it allows the minerals to be absorbed into the body easier. Allowing folks to stay hydrated and recover faster. (If Mike Modano loves mineral water, it must be great!)

Throughout the years, mineral water is proclaimed to have many health benefits. Although business and the number of open wells has decreased (only two wells are currently open), mineral water can still be found today at one of the original pavilions – Mr. Dismuke’s Famous Pavilion.

Step on inside, to hear a bit of history, see products and photographs from the prosperous days when mineral water was first introduced and sample some of the mineral water for yourself.

In case you’re curious, the water tastes a little thicker than normal water and silky. There’s definitely a different taste but it’s not bad. There’s also different levels of the mineral water with hold various mineral contents (and taste).
