Natty Flat Smokehouse

When I was checking out the World’s Largest Rocker, it was suggested that I walk over to Natty Flat Smokehouse right next door for lunch. Can we say best idea ever for one of the best days?! I’m so thankful that they suggested it in the store next door.
First, just take a look at this place. How original is this?! Rustic, western and the down home feel. I loved it! How could I not?! Inside is no different. It just has a certain kind of charm, doesn’t it?!

Inside you’ll find pretty much everything that you could be looking for. Salsa, dry rubs, bbq / hot sauce, fudge, jams and ice cream. So many items, but I was here for one thing – BBQ! Natty Flat’s has a wide array of meat and side options but I settled for chopped brisket and a side of slaw. (Check out the menu for the full list.)

To be completely honest, the brisket didn’t even need the BBQ sauce. The meat was moist and delicious. The BBQ sauce just ended up being the frosting on the cake. On the walls there was some memorabilia on the smokehouse. Natty Flat was a man who loved his BBQ. He worked in many different restaurants, either working them or starting them up and soon enough he developed a place of his own, Natty Flat Smokehouse. The man knows his BBQ.

You have the choice to sit inside or outside. There’s a fair amount of seating but the atmosphere and the customer service is what makes this place so great. Everyone is so nice and it’s truly relaxing to be there on such a beautiful day. Country livin’ folks!

Here’s one of the best parts…. the bathrooms are outside. Don’t worry, there are real toilets in there. It’s not that rustic!

La Familia, Ft. Worth

Mexican food, is oh so good! This past weekend was fun filled with lots of “Texas” events but our first stop was dinner on Friday night at La Familia in Fort Worth. I had never been here before and knew absolutely nothing about the restaurant but quickly fell in love.
Reason #1: Get a margarita.
Why?
Because they light them on fire! Well, not literally. Whether you get one on the rocks or frozen, they will bring it out, place a sugar cube on your lime and poof! Up in flames! I’m not exactly sure “why” but it makes the presentation pretty awesome and who doesn’t like fire?! The margarita is perfectly made by the way!
Reason #2: Chips and Salsa
I’m going to admit, I’m a bit nervous at trying the salsa at some Mexican restaurants. More or less, I’m scared it’s going to be too spicy but I’ve found the diamond out of them all! This salsa was some of the freshest salsa I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The chips were crispy, fresh and non-oily. This just proves that La Familia stays true to their word that all items are made fresh daily. Who doesn’t like that?!
Reason #3: Atmosphere
Exposed brick (oh I love the exposed brick). Southwest decor. Black and white vintage photos. Need I say more?!
Reason #4: Food
I know I’ve already discussed the chips and salsa but the main course was delicious.
(Above) Veggie Quesadilla’s
(Below) Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas (my order).
My meal was delicious and I couldn’t finish it. Plenty of food for a good price. My friend had the above order and it was agreed, you can’t go wrong!

If you are in the west, Fort Worth area and are looking for some good Mexican food. I would suggest swinging on over. I’m going to warn you, parking is a little tough but as soon as you find a spot, hopefully you will agree that it was worth it! Don’t forget to try a margarita!

Farina’s Winery & Cafe

Before we attended the Grapevine Christmas Wine Train last week, we had dinner at Farina’s Winery and Cafe on Main Street. I had never been here before and have I ever been missing out.

Once you walk in, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. First of all, the atmosphere is amazing. Exposed brick, rustic, warm colors, decorations, and check out the lighting (above). It’s one of those places where the size of the restaurant is just right, you feel so comfortable. We sat in a room off the back, check out these photos. Love, love, love! Let’s bring a little history into the restaurant!

Now, to be completely honest, I think I knew I was going to like this place as soon as I walked in so it’s probably a little bias but we all know the food is the real taste test! Heck, we didn’t even start off with food, we started off with a frozen sangria. Now, I’m just going to say – try one and tell me how you like it. It was better than it looks (and it looks pretty darn good)!

I’m a fan of the menu size. Not too big, not too small with a good variety – just right so you don’t feel overwhelmed with the options but each and every one sound so good that it still makes it a little hard to pick from! I went with the Shrimp Scampi and a house salad. I recommend the house salad just so you can get the dressing, it’s so delicious. I’m pretty sure you can put it on anything.

The Shrimp Scampi. The Alfredo sauce on the pasta is so creamy. It literally feels like it’s melting in your mouth. The shrimp… I don’t even know where to begin. The shrimp is coated in bread crumbs and sits in a garlic butter sauce. The sauce is made to perfection. It doesn’t feel really buttery or oily, it’s the perfect combination and provides a savory taste to the shrimp.

If you are looking for a place to catch up with friends or a new place for date night, head on over. I have a feeling you won’t be disappointed.
