Turnpike Troubadours, Arlington, TX 2011-06-11

Another Saturday, another show at Levitt Pavilion on Arlington, TX and it couldn’t have been a better night. Low and behold, this band was referred by a couple friends and they are now my new favorite band. I love it when you randomly come across a new act that just blows you away. For me it’s one thing just hearing a good song on the radio but seeing a group perform on stage is really where it’s at.

We grabbed a few chairs, a cooler of nice cold drinks and met some friends out at the Levitt. The place was pretty well packed. At 8pm, Turnpike Troubadours came out on stage and it couldn’t have been more perfect for me. This is the music that I love listening to at outdoor shows. If you mix in some Southern Soul, Bluegrass, Country and some Americana roots music, you’ll get the Turnpike Troubadours. They put on a great show, coming on stage around 8pm and playing until 10-10:30pm.

Give ’em a listen…

Something else that made me just as happy is this man…

I remember seeing him last fall at the music series at the Levitt. He brings his lasso out and teaches the kids how to lasso as well. It’s like as soon as he’s there the kids just come running, they all want to learn. Heck, I wanted to learn and Sy said “it’s just for the kids.” … I like to think he would’ve shown me, maybe next time. haha. I think I could just sit and watch him ring that lasso around for hours. Just one more thing I love about the South. It’s simple, it’s graceful, it’s the heritage and part of the way of life.

Rangers Ballpark

It’s summertime. We started out a little late but we finally made it to the stadium!

Parking $10 (split 4 ways). We ended up getting these tickets free thru a friend however they were normally $10 each (not bad!). It was also $1.00 hot dog night! Baseball, hot dogs, BYOB (non-alcoholic), makes for a great, cheap trip enjoying something that well, I think we all enjoy!
Make sure you head to your local stadium this summer to catch a game!
GO RANGERS!

Dublin Dr. Pepper Festival

Each year the town of Dublin, Texas turns into Dr. Pepper, Texas (legally) for one week in June. Dublin, is the home of the oldest Dr. Pepper bottling plant – beginning in 1891. The Dr. Pepper in Dublin isn’t your ordinary Dr. Pepper. Before I came to Texas, I thought there was only one Dr. Pepper. To be honest, I wasn’t that crazy about it. The Dr. Pepper in Dublin is made with Imperial Sugar Cane and man oh man is it ever DELICIOUS! I’ve become spoiled, it’s the only Dr. Pepper I will drink.

The Dr. Pepper Birthday Celebration is something to experience and is bigger than I initially thought. Located in the heart of the Hill Country, the drive to Dublin is beautiful in itself. The only problem is that it takes place in June… in Texas… it’s HOT! (Bring water and sunscreen.)

I attended this festival in 2009 and there is something for everyone in the family. Take part in the 10-2-4K Run, check out the vendors, crafts, live music, family friendly games and activities and of course – CAKE! Be sure to check out the exhibits – I got some great George Boutwell prints a couple years ago and LOVE them! Make sure you get some for yourself.

More importantly, check out the bottling plant. This is a must (even though there will be a line). Go in and see the souvenir museum and tour the bottling plant to see how it all goes down. At the end of the tour, swing by the gift shop. Treat yourself to a float and you won’t want to leave without grabbing a case or two (or four) of the Dr. Pepper with Imperial Sugar! I would fill the back of a pick-up if I could.

If you are ever in the Hill Country, swing on over to Dublin. This weekend they are celebrating their 120th Birthday! There is something for everyone.
