On October 1st, the Rahr & Sons Oktoberfest 5K is being held in Fort Worth! The time has come, one of my favorite times of year – Oktoberfest! This year, the Rahr & Sons Oktoberfest is being held by Highpoint Urban Living benefiting the Fort Worth Police Officers’ Award Foundation.

Join the one of these runs on Saturday, October 1st!

What’s Involved:

Each registered participant receives a short sleeve, gender specific, dry fit style shirt, a finisher pint glass and three tasty and refreshing Rahr beers.

Don’t forget about the Costume Contest (judged by the crowd, the winner receives a handcrafted ceramic Rahr Oktoberfest beer stein and will get to tap the keg), the stein hoisting contest, beer belly division, barvarian treats, German polka and of course the beer garden. Does it get much better? Oh wait….

Plano Balloon Festival Half Marathon, Relay, 5K & 1K (+Discount Code)

On September 24th, the Plano Balloon Festival 1K, 5K Half Marathon and Relay is being held in Plano, Texas! It’s time for some great fall air, a fun and energetic race and the sight of these magnificent hot air balloons and a discount for all Down Home Traveler readers (see below).

The Plano Balloon Festival Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 agency that is dedicated to educating attendees about hot air ballooning and producing a family oriented, high quality event that offers other local non-profits an opportunity to assist in the operations of the Festival. Our objective is to offer the participating non-profit agencies an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for their programs and services…thus enhancing the quality of life for all of us.  Last year, 60+ non-profit organizations and corporate groups were showcased at the Festival. They participate as food concessionaires, service providers, or to create awareness for their organization’s services and programs. Each registered participant received two tickets to the InTouch Plano Balloon Festival and free race day parking.

On February 20th, the Form Follows Fitness 5k is being held by the Blackstone Brick Company in downtown Dallas. While running through some of the finest architecture in Dallas, runners will be surrounded by some of the finest architecture and one of my favorite skylines.

The Form Follows Fitness 5k benefits the Dallas Center for Architecture. The route of the event is set to showcase some of the best architects including buildings designed by I.M. Pei, Renzo Piano, Norman Foster, Rem Koolhaas and Edward Larrabee Barnes.
