DFW Bucket List: Horseback Riding at Benbrook Stables

Disclaimer: I was not paid for this blog post, however I did receive a free trail ride in exchange for this post. As always, all opinions are my own.

When thinking of Texas, what comes to mind? Cowboys? Horses? Ranches? Those are on mine and I live here. It only makes sense that if you have only a short period here, those things should be integrated into the visit. This is Texas after all! Let’s get some interaction going! Why only watch when you can take part?! Let’s go horseback riding!

Visiting Dallas / Fort Worth shouldn’t all be “city living”. Quite frankly, it’s pretty easy to get out of all the hustle and bustle and retreat to the quiet tranquility of “country livin’” to get away from it all, even if it’s just for a little while.

Just outside of Fort Worth, I found Benbrook Stables in Benbrook, Texas. It’s a short drive and I’ll be darned if it’s not a good excuse to get out of the metroplex. Heck, it took me only 30 minutes from my place in North Arlington. Once arrived, turn off your phones and forget about all the stresses. This is a place of retreat.

I recently had a couple friends visit from Vermont. This was high on their list of things to do and definitely left an impression. The main office provides some of that good ole Texas charm. A cowhide rug lines the floor, Texas art hangs on the walls showcasing chaps, cowboy boots and landscapes followed by an old saddle holding course.

Outside – a hundred horses. No joke, our trail lead told us they currently have over 100 horses at the stables, which he knew all their names. It’s a small town.

Once our trail ride began, we met the tranquility that we’ve longed. We started on our hour trail ride leaving the stables and entering the Benbrook Park. Through woods, over a creek until we finally reached the high point fit for a camera. We had a scenic view of Lake Benbrook and some perfect Texas sights – Bluebonnets. Bluebonnets lining an untouched meadow filled with wildflowers and cactus.

There was only one disappointment – the ride just wasn’t long enough. I could’ve continued all day. I wish it continued all day! The horses were gentle and friendly. We took a few photos afterwards and checked out the rest of the stables. There’s even a great site for an event.

This is definitely something that I would put on a Texas Bucket List and be sure to check it off! It’ll leave you wanting to gallop around Texas fields all day and the arena nearby may spark some dreams of wanting to barrel race (at least it did for me). It’s such a reasonable distance as well as price. $40/hr for a trail ride – one of the most reasonable rates I’ve found.

This summer, I’m trying to focus on healthier snacking. It’s an area that’s easily overlooked during this super busy season but I’ve decided it doesn’t have to be! Traveling, attending various events – it’s all too easy to just grab fast food. I’m saying no more! On a recent trip to Walmart (my one stop shop), I found three products that will allow me to keep up with lots of events and activities and keep the healthy eating mentality!

Walmart, Grocery-Store, Summer-Snacks

Fruits, vegetables and protein are my focus areas:
• I love fruit, especially fresh fruit, however I have a texture issue with some of them.
• Vegetables, I have a harder time with and need to up the ante.
• Protein – we all need protein! It’s super easy to snack on “junk food” because it’s convenient and not always healthy and nourishing but can be a pain and super expensive to find them.

Edy’s Outshine Fruit and Veggie Bars, Edy’s Outshine Fruit Bars and Pepperoni Hot Pockets have made their way into my freezer. One, their affordable and won’t go bad within a weeks time. Two, they provide all the nourishment I need for a healthy snack. Three, there’s no texture issues as the fruit bars hit the spot.

Fruit-Bars, Veggie-Bars, Healthy-Snacks, Gluten-FreeBeing in Texas, I’ve realized that the weather has a big affect on what I eat. For those 100-degree days that are quickly approaching, I have the Outshine Bars. They are made with real fruits and vegetables and some flavors are gluten free! These are great for the days I spend next to the pool, on a quick walk or even just sitting outside on the deck enjoying some fresh air! The strawberry rhubarb flavor reminds me of picking fresh rhubarb and strawberries out of my mom’s garden and watching her make strawberry rhubarb pie. A flavor that has long been forgotten by many. Creamy coconut – maybe I don’t have quick access to a beach but I can pretend to be next to the pool.

Then there are those late nights, returning back from a baseball game, concert, day drive to a cold, A/C filled apartment where I just want to cozy up and eat something warm. I have the Hot Pocket, filled with premium meat and real cheese (and this Vermonter loves her cheese) to ensure my protein intake. Perfect-o!

These are a couple of the ways that I’ll be sticking to my healthier snacking frame of mind this summer! What are your healthy snacking tips or do you already love these products too?!

These activities are not always cheap yet I don’t want to miss out on any opportunities! How can I cut back on expenses to make the most of my income? Each year, we all spend a fair amount on car insurance plus even more time researching. Finally, there’s a site provides an auto insurance comparison to get us exactly what we’re looking for, within minutes – AutoInsurance.com!

When I had my first car, I don’t think auto insurance weighed heavily on my mind. I just wanted to hit the road and had my personal mechanic (dad) nearby. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve moved thousands of miles away from home, had the unfortunate meetings with uninsured drivers and there’s more on my plate (work, family, friends, traveling, etc.). I don’t always have time to research the best rate however it took me less than 15 minutes with AutoInsurance.com. They helped provide auto insurance comparisons specific to my needs to help find the best rate and save money for the coming months!
