Oh Texas Bluebonnets!

Over the past couple days, I’ve traveled about 700 miles. I’ve had a chance to see a wide range of Texas landscapes, towns, historical locations, met some great people and just had a fantastic overall experience. I’ll be writing all about it in the weeks to come. I can’t wait to share it with all of you.

One of my favorite things to do is drive (if you haven’t caught on already). Take a back road and you may come across something that you wouldn’t typically see. Life gives you surprises and beautiful views everyday, we just have to embrace it. This time of year in Texas, the greenery is absolutely magnificent. The green is starting to come out in the grass and in the trees but my favorite part are the flowers. Wildflowers and bluebonnets (Texas state flower) can be seen alongside the Texas roads throughout the entire state. I saw a ton of people parked on the side of the road on Sunday on the four hour drive home. I even took part at one point near the Enchanted Rock.

Checking this one off my bucket list – “Get my picture taken in Bluebonnets”!

Texas Tuesday link up with Amanda from Princess of the Panhandle and Crystal from Masons Mama. This is a chance for any blogger to participate in a post on the greatness of Texas! There’s so much to explore!

Virginia Is For Lovers

I took my first trip to Virginia in July of 2005 (also my first time on an airplane), I’ve now been three times each to see some awesome friends. I loved it so much that I was pretty tempted to move. I’m really not sure why I never did.

The DC area has so much to offer and so much history. Each time I’ve visited there is something new to see and the museums are pretty affordable so it’s a great place to go! (The Smithsonian’s are all free and there’s about a 20 of them.)

My favorite place when I visited wasn’t in a museum or even in DC. It was driving around in Virginia. We went to see my friend’s mom’s horse and visit some family members and the drive alone was worth the trip. It may take you only 20 minutes to get into the city but when you are out, it’s a beautiful countryside. White fences line the roads, horse farms are everywhere with rolling pastures. At sunset the dew and humidity would sit right above the grass in the fields. What I wouldn’t give to live out there (too bad the home prices are kind of outrageous).

Who wouldn’t like to drive down these roads everyday to their home?
When we were traveling down these roads, there were historical markers stating Civil War activity occurred here. Maybe someday I can go back and just roam around and imagine the history of the land.
Love and miss them a ton!

There’s Something about the Mornings….

Vermont mornings, there’s something about the dew on the grass, hearing the cows mooing and the birds chirping. It seems like I wake up here in Texas and I hear cars driving thru the apartment complex and airplanes flying over head. Quite the difference, eh?

I’m not a morning person. It’s a lot easier for me to sleep in than get up at the crack of dawn and before the rest of the 6 million people in this metroplex (Sy is keen to remind me that this is 10x more than the entire state I came from) but beating those 6 million is so peaceful, even in the middle of this big ol’ place.

When we left for our trip on Saturday we left at 7am and I’m pretty sure that was earlier then at least 4 of those 6 million, maybe 5.

We slowly left the city…
and hit the open road…
there’s nothing like watching the Texas sun come up…
and having a front row seat…
to see Texas.
Sometimes we forget everything the world offers.
Sometimes we just need to sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Today, take a second to enjoy the view.
