Wide Open Spaces, Part I

Recently, I went on a day trip across North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. Sometimes, what we really need is a drive to appreciate the things that surround us everyday yet we may not notice. It’s the things that this country was founded upon, the earth that so many have worked on to help make this place the place that it is. Although, I live in what I call “the big city” now, it’s so refreshing to venture out into the wide open spaces and just take a breath of fresh air. It’s what those Dixie Chicks sang about not so long ago… Here’s a little glimpse (at Part I)…

Wide Open Spaces I 061Wide Open Spaces I 059Call me crazy but I had to pull over to grab some of the following shots and I’m really glad I did. When I took the lower photo, the chains or hoses (?) were ever so slightly making noise in the light breeze.Wide Open Spaces I 058 Wide Open Spaces I 057Peanuts anyone?

Wide Open Spaces I 074Wide Open Spaces I 070I wish I could’ve pulled over to grab a better photo of these horses. This isn’t even a portion of them. Hundreds and hundreds of horses. It was amazing!

Wide Open Spaces I 060A littler earlier, in Texas off highway 377… if you look closely that sign most definitely says “Booze”. Just makes you want to pull right in, doesn’t it?!

Wide Open Spaces I 025 (2) And a little later, still off highway 377 this place was asking you to pull right in… even though I’m still not exactly sure what it was…Wide Open Spaces I 049 (2)And somewhere in between…

Wide Open Spaces I 013By the way – can someone please explain to me what’s up with these trees? Bottom halves of trees in river. This is probably a “she’s definitely from the North” comment but help me out!

Wide Open Spaces I 050 (2) Come back next week for a few more pictures from the trip including the town of Tishomingo and Oklahoma sunsets. These may be some of the best I’ve seen!

Catch the Moment, Week 3

Each day in 2014, I am taking a photo. There is no telling what the photo will be or where the “inspiration” will come from. All photos are taken either with my Nikon D5100 or the iPhone (for those times on the go). Come back each Friday for a complete compilation of the past seven days and link to join / view others as part of the 365 projects!

I really need to start using my Nikon a little more as opposed to the oh-so-easy iPhone. I think things are going to start calming down a bit (at least I hope so) – let’s keep our fingers crossed. Here’s this past week!

This week:

Day 17/365: January 17, 2014
I hope this counts even though I didn’t technically take it. I can’t be behind the camera all the time! Got to meet Will Hoge after his show at Billy Bob’s! Name sound familiar? He wrote and sings “Strong” on the Chevy Silverado commercial. Incredible songwriter, performer and is incredibly nice! Check out his music!

(17-365) 010Day 18/365: January 18, 2014
Nice days are made for drives! I got in my car and headed north. More on this coming up in a future post soon! Stay tuned!

(18-365) 055 (2)Day 19/365: January 19, 2014
Yes, my damn tree is still up. It’s to the point where I haven’t had time (I’ve been busy writing posts for y’all). My mom was telling me it was going to start sprouting branches pretty soon. This apartment will turn into a tree house. Yikes! (Side note, the tree finally came down on day 23.)

(19-365) 005Day 20/365: January 20, 2014
Days off are nice. Even better when you can go for a walk and not wear a coat! A little weird when you remember it’s still January!

(20-365) 009Day 21/365: January 21, 2014
I didn’t leave work until 7:45pm. I usually leave work at 4:30pm. This is just sheer exhaustion and waiting to leave (waiting on others).

(21-365) 012Day 22/365: January 22, 2014
A little Target wandering. Enough Said.
