Presidents Day & Update

Happy President’s Day Ya’ll! I hope the majority of folks were able to take the day off and relax. I seem to have a hard time sitting still, even when I have a three day weekend. It’s like I’m always giving myself a new project or something to keep me occupied other than just sitting down and doing nothing.
Update: My camera is currently out of commission for what could be as short as seven days or as long as two weeks. With that being said, I’m taking this time to recap on some “adventues” that I’ve taken in the past. Although my posts are usually random and posted here and there, expect that even more in the upcoming seven days, up to two weeks. I’m kind of excited about this though because there are a lot of things that I would like to share!
AND since it is President’s Day afterall……
President George HW Bush Library in College Station, TX.
George W. Bush’s House in Dallas. Just prior to his moving in.
Saturday’s Trip: Mark Cuban’s house in Dallas. Ok, maybe he’s not officially the President or the Mayor but he might as well be!

Valentine’s Day Surprise

Well Sy has conjured up some kind of plan and it’s got me stumped. Although I really do love surprises, especially when they involve traveling to an unknown destination, his lack of “good” clues has left me guessing. So I figured I would just share with all of you and let you in on some of the fun.

Hints (Although, some of them I’m not entirely sure if it’s actually a clue or just throwing me off):

  • Date: February 11th (Saturday)
  • Outside event.
  • Will be gone from 11am to 7pm
  • It may take me an hour to get ready (to get ready to go to an unknown place).
  • Location: A place we have both been, but not together… so I’m guessing it is somewhere in East Texas. Maybe Henderson, Sulphur Springs area.
  • Location is closer to “a border” than we are now. (This is a great hint, it could be in any direction. Closer to Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana. Helpful.)
  • My shoes will not get dirty.
  • He was trying to get some kind of t-shirt to wear to this event that would be “the cherry on top” but he can’t find the shirt. The shirt would’ve also given away the surprise, apparently.
  • I believe this is a one time event / thing that we are attending.
  • I may need to paint my face or put on temporary tattoos. (This obviously isn’t going to happen. This is also the hint that I’m not so sure it’s true.)
  • People will be dressed up “all crazy”.
  • He needed to make a reservation.
  • I’m going to think this is a 12 on a scale of 1-10. (Even after all the hype.)

My guesses:

  • Not pig hunting (obviously out of the question if my shoes will not be getting dirty).
  • Not jumping out of a plane or off a bridge (because I said so).
  • Horseback riding?
  • A reenactment?
  • There’s a town called “Diana” in East Texas that I’ve wanted to check out for obvious reasons but you don’t really need to make a reservation for that (or paint your face among other hints).
  • Mardi Gras is coming up but …. I’m not so sure.
  • Bringing me to meet Mike Modano or Ron Washington (definitely above a 10 on the scale).

I find most ridiculous things to be down right interesting and awesome so there is really no telling what this could be. So if you feel like having a little fun, leave a comment with your guess or guesses. I’ll let you know what the surprise was on Monday!

Holiday Lights

Living it Texas, I sometimes feel as if there are a lot more houses that put up Christmas lights than back in Vermont. Then again, it’s probably just because there are a lot more houses and they’re much closer together…. anyway, it’s always fun to drive around and check out some homes and their decor. This past weekend, I found two that, well I think it’s safe to say went above and beyond.

House #1: Please note, if you check out this home, bring your sunglasses. I’ve been told this house has been doing this for years. It’s quite insane. Everything is lit. It’s like someone dropped lights out of a plane and just covered everything on the property. The house, trees, shrubs, light pole, gates, fences, tennis court, kids swingset in the backyard. Nothing was left untouched.

When we drove by Friday night, they were collecting donations for the Alzheimers Foundations. The lights are lit in memory of those who have been affected by Alzheimers.

House #2: Just down the street from house #1, its a new approach to decorating. We’ve got the inflatables! You name it, they’ve got it. I couldn’t believe it.

Now the real question is… What do you do when you are the neighbor to these homes? Do you even try to decorate? Do you play it up or just go simple?
