Bucket List: Another One Checked Off!

I’ve been having a hard time trying to figure out how I’m going to share my experience at BlogHer a couple weeks ago. It was absolutely amazing to say the least. So we’ll start off with my favorite, the sights of Chicago!

Checking one off my Bucket List for 28 in 28, was to complete a 5k… and I DID IT! The best part about this 5k was not getting up at 5:45am, but the sights along the way! (I know, hard to believe isn’t it?!). Chicago stole my heart. More specifically, the architecture. Have y’all been to Chicago?! I didn’t know what to expect but I was blown away. The downtown area is so clean and the buildings, oh the buildings are gorgeous!

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Diana meets Lake Michigan. Let’s stop for a quick, “I look like hell but I want a photo anyway” opportunity!

And then we ran next to the Lake. So beautiful and peaceful in the morning!

To prove I completed the 5k, here I am at the Best Buy finish line! The 5k was sponsored by Best Buy, they graciously provided us all with FitBit’s for participating. That little life tracker is there on my wrist, the model that I am at 6:30am. haha!

Now that I have one under my belt, I’m excited to take part in The Color Run this fall. (Don’t forget to grab your $5 discount code!) Chicago is beautiful! If you have a chance to go, don’t pass it up. I’m already looking for a reason to go back!

Texas Music Scene – Magnolia Motor Lounge

Nothing compares to the music scene in Texas. To say that I love it, is an understatement. Singers, songwriters, musicians alike, mix together like one big family (many are actually family). Some of the best nights can be found sitting around with good friends (or even solo) enjoying the company of the folks on stage and listening to them talk about what inspired a certain tune. It doesn’t always have to be dancehalls and honkytonks, sometimes, a small venue is where it’s at. Case in point – Sunday evening at Magnolia Motor Lounge in Ft. Worth.

Saturday afternoon, I received an email stating William Clark Green had just announced a show at Magnolia Motor Lounge in Ft. Worth for Sunday. Honestly, I don’t usually go out on Sunday nights but I’m loving his music right now and thought what the heck (staying out late always sounds good until the next morning, right?). Sunday evening came, I met up with a friend (really thinking I was only going to stay until 10 so I could get some sleep) and we were ready to see WCG. What we got in return was an unbelievable show.

Honestly, I’m surprised the place wasn’t packed to the brim. To the folks that weren’t there, you really missed out. Each artist took a turn telling a story about an experience and then played a tune. To see, listen and be there in the moment with them on stage was phenomenal. It ended with Walt Wilkins “Poetry”, the perfect way to end the evening. It’s definitely an experience that goes down in my top 10!

If you have time to check out these guys or swing by one of their shows, don’t pass it up! If you have seen them, you probably have a good idea what I’m talking about.

Support the Texas music scene, there’s absolutely nothing like it!

WW: Compliments From a Celebrity

It’s been pretty apparent that I attended BlogHer in Chicago last weekend. In a nutshell, it was an amazing experience and I will be getting into the details of the entire event later on. Since it is “Wordless Wednesday”, I did have a moment where I walked away saying “Did that just happen?”.
Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, maybe you’ve heard of her (if you haven’t – you’ve been missing out). She’s a wife to a cowboy, mama to four children, blogger, NY Times Best Selling Author and currently has her own TV show on the Food Network. I’ve been a fan of hers for quite some time. A couple years ago, I even stood in line for a couple hours waiting to meet her and for her to sign my book.
On Saturday, Heather and I found ourselves at the perfect place at the perfect time. We literally spent maybe five minutes waiting in line to talk to her and I’m pretty sure she talked to us for the same amount of time that we waited. So incredibly nice and sweet.
Then it happened.
She complimented my shirt.
A NY Times Best Selling Author and Food Network Star, complimented me.
Shouldn’t I have been complimenting her?
(Yes, I realize we’re all people, but come on now – it’s exciting.)

So much excitement, I just realized I could’ve asked her what I’ve been wondering for months – what are you doing with that building in town?!

Until next time!

Today I’m linking up with The Paper Mama, Jenni From the Blog, Seven Clown Circus and Communal Global for{Wordless Wednesday}.
