March Recap

The past two weekends have been busy, busy, busy! Work, weekends, weeknights, the whole nine yards!
The second weekend of March I headed down to Houston for the annual Brown Family Crawfish boil. I love this family. They are so much fun to hang out with, it’s like having my own big, Southern family. (Which is kind of how I view everyone down here.) As always, it was a great time. Half the fun is driving down to Houston, driving through the Texas country and thru the little towns.

While in Houston, I had lunch with a friend that I went to high school with and haven’t seen in ten years. Seriously, ten years. She now lives in Houston and is expecting a little baby boy in April (isn’t that baby bump adorable?!). After graduating from a class of 28, what are the chances that three of us would be living in Texas ten years later?! It was really great catching up with her and meeting her husband!

The Annual Brown Family Crawfish Boil was full of food and fun. Apples to Apples is one of my favorites!

This past weekend, a group of us headed to Shreveport, Louisiana for a bachelor / bachelorette party. Us girls stepped up the class a bit. Check out my homemade tutu! (I can include this on my bucket list!) It was a lot of fun. Sure we got some crazy looks from a few but I mean, we look seriously cute if I don’t say so myself! I’d totally do it again!

AND if you are ever in Shreveport, check out the Blind Tiger Restaurant. Seriously, I didn’t hear one complaint from our group about dinner (there were 14 of us and some of us ended up going back the next day for lunch). Below is a picture of the crab cakes with a crawfish sauce on top. Savory greatness!

Well, that’s the bulk of it! I’m hoping to lock myself in my apartment this weekend and get this blog on a roll! I’m working on a new website / layout for y’all plus I’ve got a lot of great upcoming events including a wedding, NASCAR and something that I’m most excited about – a trip to the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop, TX!

Jamey Johnson & My Confession

A week ago, I headed out to see one of my favorite songwriters perform. Jamey Johnson. He is amazing! If you haven’t heard him sing some of his songs, I’m most certain you’ve heard some that he’s written.

I knew the show was going to be amazing but I didn’t realize how amazing! Over three hours worth of amazing! Definitely getting your money’s worth! It seemed like he sang all of his songs even though I know there’s a vault load that he didn’t sing. He also sang the Dixie Chicks / Bruce Robinson hit, ‘Travelin’ Soldier’ and his father and daughter came out and sang ‘In Color’ with him. That was the highlight for me. Talk about a special moment!

Later during the evening, I found myself near the back of the stage. Where I was still in the general admission area however I could see the stage from the side and the backstage door was only about 8 feet away. That’s right, 8 feet. This is where the confession comes in. Celebrities / famous people.
1. I’m not very good at picking them out of a crowd.
2. When I do, I am convincing myself that it’s not really them.
3. I cannot EVER bring myself to ask them for a picture or even talk to them.
Does this happen to anyone else?!

Case in point, the Jamey Johnson concert. Here I am, standing around, enjoying the show. Who walks out the backstage door? Marty Turco. For those who don’t know, Marty Turco was a goalie for the Dallas Stars and is AMAZING!

I knew who he was right off. (Amazingly enough.) I also started saying “That can’t be him!” Then he walks back thru the backstage door. Gone – in a flash! I lean over to the guy next to me and say, “Who was that?”.
He responds “Marty Turco”. I say, “I thought so.” I then turn back to my friend and say “Crap. That was him!”

I proceeded to stare down the door, because that was going to make him come back, haha! Deep down, I knew there were other Stars players back there! A little while later, I different man walks out and then stands facing the stage. He’s standing there for a while, by himself. I knew he was with Turco.
About ten minutes go by, out comes Marty Turco and another hockey player. Before I can stop myself I say “MARTY TURCO!”. We make eye contact. I think he was stunned that some girl knew who he was at a Jamey Johnson concert (of all places). I mean, another guy was there and he was surprised that I knew who Marty Turco was. But that’s all I could get out “Marty Turco!”. I couldn’t say “Can I have your picture?!”, “You are awesome!”, “I saw you at the game last Thursday!”. Nothing.

So here I was, starring at Jamie Langenbrunner, Marty Turco and Brett Hull. Hockey greats and it was like I had a sock in my mouth.

Does anyone else have a problem?! It’s happened to me before. I realize they are people just like you and I however I feel like this must happen to them a lot, so why not just let them enjoy the show like everyone else…. no?

Texas Tuesday: Fort Worth Stockyards

This week I’m co-hosting the Texas Tuesday link up with Amanda from Princess of the Panhandle and Crystal from Masons Mama. This is a chance for any blogger to participate in a post on the greatness of Texas! There’s so much to explore!

This week I’m going to talk about a great event that goes on everyday in Fort Worth. It is a true taste of the wild west, the Fort Worth Stockyards and a must see for anyone visiting the area. The Fort Worth Stockyards bring the old town wild west into modern day Fort Worth. It’s one of my favorite places in this area!

Twice a day, the cattle is driven down the street by cowboys, just as they were years ago. It’s a sight to see! Coming from someone who completely loves these animals, it’s even better!

Once the cattle drive is complete, head on over around the corner for a live shootout! That’s right! I said shootout! Be sure to stand close and pay attention so you can take part and see all the action of the gun show!

The shootout brings together those of all ages, the kids and adults enjoy it all the same! The actors do a great job incorporating humor into the show and seriously, how can you not like their outfits!

If you are in the area or if you’ve lived here your entire life, head on over to check this out. The best part is that it’s free so if you have a family, this is a great , affordable outing for an hour or two. Enjoy the great spring weather with a little bit of free, Western entertainment!
