Painting and Wine, Just My Style

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post. I received free product in return for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Are you someone who has always been curious about painting but a little nervous about the attempt? Perhaps this is in your new years resolution? Painting and drawing has always been something that my parents and brother excelled at more than me. The most I can conjure up on a good day is a good ole stick figure, less the details – this is why I stick to photography.

Here in the DFW area, a small business called Painting With A Twist has become quite popular. The basic concept is to come in solo or with a group of friends. You are encouraged to bring wine, snacks and will receive step by step direction to create a masterpiece of your own. Last week, I attended Painting With A Twist in Arlington with a group of girlfriends. I couldn’t have asked for a better time! Wine, snacks, Nicole was selected to have “the bell” in class meaning whenever the bell is rung, you must take a drink. During all of this, we paint!

Each attendee is provided with an easel, canvas, brushes and tray of the paint that you will need.

PaintingWithATwistArlington1The class starts off with easy direction on how to create the masterpiece. It also starts off with wine. What a better way to relax than a glass or two?! What’s fun about this is on attendee is given a bell. Whenever that bell is rung, everyone drinks!

By the end of class, you will have this work of art created by YOU. (And yes, it will be a masterpiece, wine and all!)

Believe me, I was questioning how this would turn out and I couldn’t be prouder of my design! Take a look!

I decided to give my painting to my mom as a Christmas gift. It looked amazing in their living room with this candle light lite up. Also, it was perfect for the Vermont winter, bringing the outdoors in.

PaintingWithATwistArlington5This is a whole lot of fun and we are already talking about going back. If you are looking for something different, to explore your artsy side and relax, this is your place. Check out the website and see if there’s a location near you! There’s a new painting nearly everyday, the options are endless!

South End Art Hop, Vermont

245The South End Art Hop is an annual city wide event that captures, celebrates and showcases artists from around the state. Weekend wide, you can walk the streets, explore, visit local businesses, listen to musicians and just find new appealing sights in the art industry. I was lucky enough to be back in Vermont this year to attend and catch up with an old friend. Definitely an awesome time!

PicMonkey Collage4Perhaps if you pay enough attention, things may be right under your nose…

This was an exhibit of friends who were tending to areas while friends were out of town, and they photographed themselves. Right after I saw this, I realized this chair was in the next room…

PicMonkey Collage1This was one of my favorite pieces. I love the old barn. Very Vermont and Texas (minus the mountain in the back). 227

My friend Jen from college has been doing stand up comedy in Burlington. A few of her fellow comedians are part of the Improv show that was going on. I’ve never attended an Improv show but it was HILARIOUS – if you happen to get a chance to check one out (or more specifically these folks)… do it! Let’s Go Antiquing!

Just south of the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex, you will find yourself in the little town of Venus. I mean, it’s little, not small, little. I found myself looking at the water tower that hovered over the police station, overlooking the park and the one and a half blocks of buildings that surrounded it. A restaurant, hardware store and an antique store. I couldn’t have been happier to have found the antique store… I’ve been searching for just the right piece of furniture to call my own!

In the above building, you will find Grandma Had One Antique and Once in a Blue Moon Antique Sale. Essentially, the store is split up into two sections. The section on the far left is filled to the brim with books. Thousands and thousands of books!

The section on the right, well, anything and everything else. Furniture, books, window panes, horse shoes, cookware, odds and ends, chairs, tables and everything else.

For the curious and crafty mind, you might as well bring a trailer for your goods. You’ll be overwhelmed with ideas from all of those great HGTV shows. For others who are just looking for a good piece of furniture to pick up and bring home, well there’s plenty for you as well! If I had a house, I would’ve taken the below piece home.

Instead, what I took home was this little table (below). Super cute and very reasonably priced. I just had to dust it off a bit and I was able to check getting a piece of Texas furniture off my bucket list! Plus, the color is perfect!

If you happen to be in the market for furniture, refurbishing or even just looking for a drive thru a little ole Texas country town, here’s one you can check off your list!
