2011, In Review

I think we’ve all had a lot of great events happen in the last year, some we have have even forgotten but now is a good time to revisit and reflect. For me, there have been many weddings and engagements, births and pregnancies and all around good times with family and friends. There have also been a lot of great events. Here are some of my personal favorites from this past year!

Best Food / Food Festival – Hands Down the Texas Steak Cookoff. I can’t wait until May 2012!

Favorite New Food – Crawfish

Best Concerts – ALC 2011 (Fleet Foxes, AKUS, Ryan Bingham),

Best Show/Band I’ve Reaquainted Myself With: Guster (I hadn’t seen them since before I moved to Texas!)

Best New Artists I’ve come across – Turnpike Troubadours and the Dirty River Boys!

Trips – (3) Trips to Vermont

Wishing you all the very best in 2012!

Holiday Lights

Living it Texas, I sometimes feel as if there are a lot more houses that put up Christmas lights than back in Vermont. Then again, it’s probably just because there are a lot more houses and they’re much closer together…. anyway, it’s always fun to drive around and check out some homes and their decor. This past weekend, I found two that, well I think it’s safe to say went above and beyond.

House #1: Please note, if you check out this home, bring your sunglasses. I’ve been told this house has been doing this for years. It’s quite insane. Everything is lit. It’s like someone dropped lights out of a plane and just covered everything on the property. The house, trees, shrubs, light pole, gates, fences, tennis court, kids swingset in the backyard. Nothing was left untouched.

When we drove by Friday night, they were collecting donations for the Alzheimers Foundations. The lights are lit in memory of those who have been affected by Alzheimers.

House #2: Just down the street from house #1, its a new approach to decorating. We’ve got the inflatables! You name it, they’ve got it. I couldn’t believe it.

Now the real question is… What do you do when you are the neighbor to these homes? Do you even try to decorate? Do you play it up or just go simple?

The Galleria Christmas Tree

The Galleria Mall in Dallas is home to the world’s largest indoor Christmas tree.
I’ve wanted to see this thing since I first heard about it and this year I finally got the chance!
As you can see it sits in the middle of the ice skating rink and sits oh so pretty!
When you look at the tree you can also see six year old girls who can ice skate better than you can ever dream of, haha.
I went to look at the tree from the 4th floor and I got a little vertigo.
It was kind of weird and unenjoyable. Has this happened to anyone else?
The ground floor was much better!
Look at all those ornaments and lights!
I have a feeling this guy probably hates his job but I’ve always wanted to drive a Zamboni… even if it is just around the Christmas tree in an ice rink (more preferably on a hockey rink, just FYI)!
Throughout the day, the tree lights will kind of “dance” the holiday music. It’s pretty neat to watch. It was also kind of cool to catch a glimpse of the tree without any lights on and really see how much decor was on the tree.
Happy Holidays!
