27 in 27 – A Year in Review

Today is my last official full day of being 27. It’s been one heck of a year and I thought what better than to look back at some of my favorite moments.
#1 I became Auntie Diana to the most beautiful little girl in the world. (This is my favorite moment!)
The rest are in no particular order:
2. I was able to go home multiple times to have lots of fun with family and friends, including my brother’s wedding. You can see a couple here and here.
3. ACL 2012. (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3)
4. Helping out with the Miracle League.
5. Dirty River Boys!! Love. If you have a chance to see these guys, definitely do!
6. Explored my green thumb side. My Memere says it runs in my blood so there’s gotta be something good there!
7. Saw some of the craziest homes in DFW who go ALL out for the holidays.
9. Headed up to NH for my favorite roomie’s wedding (and fell in love with Portsmouth)
10. Had the BEST lobster roll and got to meet up with some college friends (long overdue).
11. Things to see in life: World’s Littlest Skyscraper… yep we can check that one off the list.
12. Need some beer – head to the World of Beer. My microbrew home in Texas.
13. Wanna chase some tornado’s? This was step one.
14. My addiction begins and grows: Women’s USA Soccer!
15. March 16, 2012 marks four years since my arrival in Texas.
16. Traveled to Tennessee for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh to see Tyler.
17. Memphis – you are lovely! Beale Street and The Peabody!
18. The BEST BBQ, period. Rendezvous – you and I are too far apart.
19. 2nd Annual Brown Crawfish Boil. (Well 2nd to me.) Delicious and THANK YOU Mr. Brown!
20. I got to be a judge in the Texas Steak Cookoff!
21. The Lumineers. You’re shows are selling out – the show we saw was unforgettable.
22. The infatuation with Duck Commander begins.
23. Millie and Mom & Dad’s visit!
26. I found my doppelganger (and she’s an Olympian)!

What an AMAZING year. Blessed.
It went by way too fast but I can’t wait to see what 28 brings!
Cheers!

Ten Years!

Besides meeting my niece, my trip home last month was to attend my high school reunion (ten years)! It’s kind of crazy to think that ten years have flown by. Has it really been that long?! I still keep in touch with some of my classmates. They’re not just classmates, they are family. I guess it’s pretty easy to do considering there was only 28 in our graduating class. It’s pretty special being part of such a great group of people.
The majority of us have been together since Kindergarten. We all played sports, we all had the same classes, we have endless stories of growing up. Even though I’m sure we’d rather forget some of them. Whenever we get together it’s like we haven’t skipped a beat and just pick up where we left off. Now we’re all adults and I’d say we’ve had some good accomplishments.
We have a few marriages, a few babies, nurses, health care professionals, world travelers and even a Civil War reenactor. All in all – these are some of the best people that you will ever meet. We typically get together for weddings. Next year is no exception, there’s going to be two!
Only about 10 of us showed up for our reunion. One was one traveling in Spain, another couldn’t make it due to traveling and a pregnant wife. (He lives about 10 minutes from me here in Texas. Yes it is a small world.)  The ones who made it met at the Lake Carmi State Park. It’s beautiful if you haven’t been. The weather couldn’t have been better. We sat next to the lake catching up, cooking out and playing some games. We even had a couple members of faculty show up and it was definitely nice to see them after all of these years.
Playing some cornhole aka bags. (Margo is one of the brides-to-be in 2013. Her future husband is below cooking corn.)

What happens when a few people find out you have never husked corn before… you get to do it in front of everyone! Good job Sy.

This is the stray cat that kept coming around and who almost went home with Tyler.

Group photo!
The one with the crazy hat and beard is the Civil War Reenactor. We went to see him at the Battle of Shiloh.
One of my classmates couldn’t make it to the reunion as her uncle was getting married on the same day on their dairy farm. Yes, on their dairy farm. We’re country folk. In turn, a few of us headed up there to meet her, visit with her family and continue the party. The party never ends with this group! And of course we posed on the tractor!

So happy to see you Kasey! (Bride-to-be for the other wedding in 2013!)

I was so happy to see everyone! There’s nothing like being at home. Love and miss these guys everyday! See you on the next trip back to Vermont!

My Olympic Doppelganger

The Olympics officially end tonight or with the time difference I guess it’s probably happening right now. It’s been a fully packed two weeks and looking back it seems like they have been going on for a lot longer than two weeks! What has been everyone’s highlights?

For me:

  • USA Women’s Soccer Team! If only my DVR properly recorded their gold winning game.
  • Water Polo is ruthless. The fact that the men’s bodies are so chiseled makes up for them wearing those funny little caps. (Yes, I just went there!)
  • Andy Murray – High Five! I’m so happy you won!
  • Rowing looks awfully fun…. I need to make some friends in that department.
  • Michael Phelps – great job obtaining the most medals of any Olympian. Just a head’s up – Usain Bolt is claiming he is the greatest Olympian of all time. I’ll admit he’s fast but not so sure about the greatest.
  • I enjoyed seeing the Royals at the games (and really getting into them).
  • Did anyone else realize how huge London is?! It’s MASSIVE!
  • The time difference caused some serious issues… 90% of the time I knew the winner before I watched the race. Didn’t stop me from watching them!
  • I FOUND MY DOPPELGANGER! (For anyone who doesn’t know, a doppelganger is someone who could be your twin.) Rebecca Soni, Captain for the US Women’s Swimming Team. Sy’s had quite a lot of fun with this. He tells people to look up Soni’s picture or shows them and he just gets laughs. Ask him – he is incredibly amused.

What were your favorite Olympic moment’s from the past two weeks?
