How Do You Like Your Chili?

The weather has cooled and it’s officially time to throw on the layers and enjoy the fall! With all of the fun comes the best food for this kind of temperature – chili! This past weekend, Southside Fort Worth held the 2nd Annual Chili on the Green. This fun event showcased 12 local teams who all aspired to win the best chili of the year.

This year, 12 teams registered to cook, the majority local businesses from the area.
To attend the event, admission was $10 per person. This provides you with the opportunity to try a sample from each team and three voting tickets. You become the judge!

The tasting / voting period was a little short – only about 2 hours. Honestly, I wish there would’ve been more time to the event as it didn’t allow others who got there a little later to taste all the chili submissions. If you plan on going – be sure to get there at the beginning of the tasting time.

It was really interesting to hear about all the different seasonings, meats and consistencies in addition to the toppings. Some with a few surprises. One team didn’t get the memo about Texas chili not having beans but to each their own.

In addition to the chili, water, soda and beer were also available as well as an ice cream food truck which really hit the spot at the end of the tasting/voting period. Music was provided throughout the day which was a great addition. The musicians were all local, capping off with the Walker Texas Dangers bluegrass band which pretty much made the event for me.

All in all the day was well spent with some fantastic fall weather, delicious food and great music. For just $10, it’s the best place to “grab lunch” and immerse yourself in some local flavor. If you have a chance to catch next years event, definitely do. Bring the family – they’ll love it!

Nate’s Grandpa used to enter (and win) these cookoffs before he passed. He always talks about how fun it was. Your pictures are awesome and makes me want to go to one!
