For Halloween this year, I went Trick or Treating with Sy’s niece and nephew.
Trick or treating is very, very different in the DFW area than where I grew up.
Here, it’s like the movies – you just walk out the front door and go to the neighbors in your neighborhood. The street is lined with homes and you don’t have to put on your winter coat!
Back home in Vermont, I lived out in the country and it seemed like every Halloween we would get our first snowfall. This meant, costume on, winter coat over the costume. Our neighbors were not close at all. We would have to drive from neighbor to neighbor and only to where we knew the homeowners. Once we were done Trick or Treating, we would go to the Elementary school (the only school in our town) where they would have games in the gym for the kids and a Haunted Forest. I wonder if that still goes on…
Texas = much different.
So, here I was walking with Sy’s niece, nephew and his mom going house to house and we came to one home where a group of people were standing outside handing out items.
This particular home ran out of candy but kept giving.
They hadn’t run out of booze either.
Sy’s nephew received 38 cents (way to hit up a house that’s giving out money) and his niece – she got something super special.
The man told her that he was giving her a special coin. A very, very luck coin that was just for her!
She was to hold onto it forever for good luck.
The coin:
A $1 token from the Lady Luck Casino in Quad Cities, Iowa.
Way to make a steal!
